Justice and Peace

PEACE is a desirable good for individuals as well as for nations. The human heart longs for peace, which is also a political objective that no responsible government can ignore. Be it in the East or the West, in the North or the South, the prophetic vision of a world in which swords are beaten into plowshares and spears into pruning hooks elicits a positive response.

However, peace has its conditions. Unless they are met, the ideal of peace becomes merely a desire that cannot be fulfilled. Isaiah 32:17 points to the most important condition:  justice. It reads: “The effect of righteousness [justice] will be peace, and the result of righteousness, quiet and trust forever.” Peace relates to justice as fruit to the tree that produces it. Where there is no justice, there can be no peace. Injustice and peace cannot coexist.

The most efficient manner of working for peace is to fight against injustice. Do you desire peace? Then, “let justice roll down like the waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream” (Amos 5:24). Do you desire “rest and security forever”? Then, “put away violence and oppression, and do what is just and right” (Ez. 45:9). Do you desire to live “in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places”?  Then, “He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God”(Mi. 6:8). 

Lord, we pray that you would open our eyes to the injustice around us and helps us to understand how we can address.

Lord, challenge us out of our complacency and help us to do what is right and just.

Strategic Framework

After completing our annual audit this year, our auditor turned to me and asked “what would happen if Micah Network ceased to exist tomorrow, would anything change?” This cut to the heart and highlighted the need for us to take time out and ask God what He wants for us and how to get there.

In light of our current financial struggles and reflecting on whether Micah Network is providing an important platform for transformational mission I would like to invite you all to stand with us and seek God for direction and answers:

Pray for wisdom and discernment as we wrestle through the practical and financial struggles

Pray for people to come forward to speak and share their hearts desire for Micah Network

Impact of Staff
Continue to pray for staff who have had to leave Micah Network due to our financial limitations (Greg, Ben and Timothy) as well as for Ruth, Sundar and Sheryl as they face the cuts and changes in their roles too.

Integral Mission

Asia Regional Consultation: 17th to 21st October 2011 – Sri Lanka: it looks like we will have just over 100 participants – thank you Lord. Please pray for all participating in this that God would prepare their hearts and minds to gain and share so much in this week together. Pray for safety in travel and for visas and permissions to be given in a timely manner. Pray too for LEADS who have taken on the challenge of host for this event, may God fill them and strengthen them with His presence as they give out their time and support.

Zambia: Integral Mission Conversation and Reconciliation Workshop: 15th to 17th November 2012. Please pray for the word to get out to Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Zambia to attend this gathering. Pray that the logistics and support on ground. Pray for an amazing release of Gods healing and presence as we talk together.

Argentina: 23rd to 5th November 2011: Art and Mission Conversation. Please pray for a creative joy to be expressed throughout these discussions and that insight will be gained to take forward to the CLADE V meeting in 2012.

Brazil: 10th to 11th November: Integral Mission and Indigenous People (focus on those form Africa descent). Please pray for good attendance and a real breakthrough on how to bless these folk.

Peru: 16th t0 18th November 2011: Integral Mission and the Quechua People.
Thank God for the amazing support of members to help host, facilitate and participate in these gatherings.

Global Prayer

HOPE FOR CREATION: A GLOBAL DAY OF PRAYER AND ACTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE

On Sunday 6 November a global movement of Christians from over 30 countries will be getting down on its knees to pray and speak up for urgent action to protect God’s good creation and our global neighbours who are hit hardest by the changing climate.

Urgent action is desperately needed internationally to tackle the problem and protect the world’s poorest people who are suffering the most.

We’re really excited that churches and Christians in over 30 countries are already taking part. Add your name today to pray and speak up for justice for our global neighbours hit hardest by climate change and for action to protect God’s creation.

Floods in Cambodia

Most of you may already know about the severe flooding across Asia in recent weeks from news reports. Cambodia is also amongst the worst affected. Days of heavy rain have led to the Mekong River flooding large areas of the country, with fourteen provinces seriously inundated. The province of Kampong Thom is one of the worst affected, with thousands of hectares of rice fields flooded and large numbers of families having to flee their homes.

Staff from EFC have carried out assessments and found many families were living in desperate conditions, with outbreaks of illness caused by mosquitoes and unclean water.
In places people are cut off and isolated but EFC are trying to access the most vulnerable and provide them with help. EFC Staff have mobilised local churches in the areas of Prasat Sambo and Sandan to respond with practical aid. But they ask for prayer for good cooperation with local church so that they can obtain accurate information, especially the basic needs (food, water, shelter...) of communities affected.

Micah Sunday

October 16th: Micah Sunday – please pray that church around the world will mobilise and raise awareness of poverty issues and our responsibility to engage in holding our governments to account for the promises to reduce extreme poverty by 2012. Have you join the Micah Challenge campaign?
